Information on Library Meetings and Artifact Shows An endeavor of the GSLAS is to educate the public on local archaeology. To help us do this, we have four educational meetings each year. The meetings are all held at the Bridgeton Trails Branch Library at 3455 McKelvey Road. Meetings begin at 7:00 pm and end at 9:00 pm. Call (314) 291-7570 for directions. The meetings are open to the public and we welcome members and newcomers alike. The dates of this years meetings are:
We also educate the public on local archaeology by sponsoring Artifact Shows. Numerous magnificent collections of artifacts from the St. Louis area are proudly displayed. Several collections from around the country are also on exhibit. Feel free to contact the host of an area show to find out about getting your collection the recognition it deserves. Each show gives awards for Best of Show, Awards of Excellence, Best Personal Find of past year and Junior Award for the best youth collection. You can purchase artifacts to fill holes in your collection, swap stuff, sell some of your artifacts, purchase books and posters or just simply enjoy viewing the many fine collections presented by their happy owners. It is also a great time to learn about local archaeology from territorial experts like Ben Thompson, Alan Banks, Floyd Ritter, Terry Allen and Jerry Davis. The dates and locations of this years shows are: Bonne Terre Artifact Show Sunday, April 27th from 7 - 3 pm at the new Bonne Terre Elementary School located on Hwy 67 and Old Orchard Road.
Cape Girardeau Artifact Show Sunday, June 22nd from 8 - 3pm at the Cape Girardeau Drury Lodge, located at exit 96 on I-55.
